Diamond dwellers move to 6-6

marie@pvdemocrat.com — After winning their second in a row on Monday the Pauls Valley Panthers fell just short of winning their third straight losing 6-5 to Marietta on Tuesday.

Monday the Panthers used a strong outing from left hander Tyler Butts for a 7-4 win over Comanche.

Butts pitched seven strong innings giving up 4 runs none of them earned on 3 hits. He walked one but struck out a season high 9 for his second straight win.

Butts also got it done at the plate with two hits and two runs scored.

Drake O’Bryant continued to hit the ball well with two hits. He is riding a five game hitting streak.

Treston Williams and Devin Baker both had two hits in the game.

Pauls Valley trailed early in the game but rallied to tie the game in the third and then pull away in the final two innings for the win.

Tuesday, the Panthers had their chances to win their third straight game but seven errors cost them the win. Three of those errors came in the final inning when Marietta scored a run to break a 5-5 tie for a 6-5 win.

Treston Williams had a good outing on the mound going five innings giving up four runs, none earned on seven hits. Williams struck out three while walking only one.

Eddie Johnson relieved Williams in the sixth giving up two runs, none earned, on one hit. He struck out three and didn’t walk anyone.

PV took an early 1-0 lead as O’Bryant walked to start the game and moved to second on a passed ball. He scored on Tanner Hamilton’s single.

PV’s lead grew to 2-0 in the third as Williams reached on a fielder’s choice. He scored on Baker’s double.

The lead grew to 4-0 in the fourth as Austin Foxworth’s and Caleb Jones walked. Foxworth scored on Perry’s single and Jones scored on a passed ball.

Marietta tied the game at four with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

Pauls Valley would regain the lead in the top of the sixth as Butts led off the inning with a walk. Jones would walk and Perry loaded the bases with a single. O’Bryant singled home Butts and Jones was thrown out at home on the play.

Marietta tied the scored in the sixth off an error and then won the game in the seventh off three errors.

Matt Perry and Tanner Hamilton had multiple hits to lead the offense. O’Bryant had a hit in his sixth straight game.

Pauls Valley will look to get back on the winning track Thursday as they face Washington in the Sulphur Tournament.
