Daddy/Daughter

PV United Fund's annual Daddy/Daughter Dance is coming from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Reynolds Recreation Center. Advance tickets are available at the recreation center or the Oklahoma Works office, 522 S. Chickasaw. The theme is Boots and Bling.

Voter deadline

Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 as the Paoli, Maysville and Lindsay school districts have bond issue elections. For more contact the Garvin County Election Board.

Republican Party

The Garvin County Republican Party holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. the second Monday of the month at Christian Life Church in PV, 820 S. Walnut. The next one is Feb. 11. Call 405-740-5131.

Toy museum

The Toy and Action Figure Museum in PV will feature free admission every second Sunday of the month, typically 1 to 5 p.m., as a way of thanking the community for its support. The next one is Feb. 10.

Spread the Love

Delta Community Action Foundation, Inc. is now leading a campaign called “Spread the Love,” which asks for donations of peanut butter and jelly through Feb. 28. Drop off donations at Garvin County Delta offices, 225 W. McClure in Pauls Valley and 308 SW 2nd Street in Lindsay, or 223 Washington in Purcell.

Legislative event

The PV Chamber of Commerce will host a legislative breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at the Reynolds Recreation Center. Anyone planning to attend should RSVP by calling 405-238-6491 or contact the chamber online.

Driver safety

Whitebead birthday

Whitebead School is now planning for a Centennial Celebration on March 1. Anyone with old photos or stories about Whitebead's past is encouraged to contact the school. The event includes the school's annual bean tamale and supper dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening.

Family nights

Spring book fairs are through Feb.14 at Lee Elementary and Feb. 20-March 1 at Jackson Elementary. Family nights from after school through 5 p.m. are Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Lee and Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Jackson.

Pet pantry

A P.A.W.S. food pantry for dogs and cats is available at PV's animal shelter from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month. The next one is Feb. 12. For information on receiving help or making donations to the effort, call the shelter.

Church singing

The Full Gospel Church of Pauls Valley, 308 S. Pine, hosts a monthly open mic gospel singing the third Saturday of the month starting at 6:30 p.m. The next one is Feb. 16.

Livestock show

The 82nd annual Garvin County 4-H and FFA Invitational Junior Livestock Show is Feb. 25 to March 2 at the county fairgrounds in PV. The hog show is on Tuesday, Feb. 25, while shows for cattle, goats and lambs are Thursday, Feb. 28. A premium sale begins at 1 p.m. March 2.

Church revival

New Hope Baptist Church in Sulphur is inviting the public to a revival at 7 p.m. nightly Sunday through Wednesday, March 3-6.

Free compost

Free piles of compost and mulch are now available to the public at the Pauls Valley Recycling Center on South Walnut. Anyone interested is responsible for hauling away the materials.

Horse rescues

The nonprofit Makur Farms Equine Sanctuary at a farm near Elmore City now has a GoFundMe page online accepting donations to help with the care of horses taken in as a rescue. The goal is to raise $25,000.

Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in PV offers a weekly food pantry for emergency assistance to PV residents in need. New times are from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Senior class

Big Five Community Services is offering a free “Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance” class from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the senior citizen center in PV. Call 888-439-5331 for more.

Beginning Again

Beginning Again, widows gathering for lunch, have returned to meeting once a month at Mimi‘s Restaurant in downtown PV. The next one will be announced later.

Democratic Party

The Garvin County Democratic Party meets at 10 a.m. the first Saturday of the month. The next one is March 2 at the Reynolds Recreation Center in PV.

Antioch lunch

The next First Tuesday lunch at the Antioch School/Senior Center will be at noon March 5 There is no charge but desserts are appreciated.

Pet clinic

The next sign up for a monthly spay and neuter clinic for dogs and cats is at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1 at the PV Animal Shelter. Sign up is normally the first business day of the month. Call 405-238-1303 for more.

The Gathering

The PV Ministerial Alliance holds a 5th Sunday “Gathering,” a time for churches to come together for prayer, at a local church to be announced. The next one is scheduled in March.

Lego Club

A Lego Club for ages seven and up has returned during school days from 4 to 5 p.m. Mondays at the PV Public Library. The club now includes board and card games, crafts and other activities.

The city library also has an after school snack program for ages 18 and younger from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. every school day.

After school

An after school program at Reynolds Recreation Center has returned for a second year. There is a fee for kids to participate in the program offered from 3 to 6 p.m. school days.

AA meetings

AA meetings in Pauls Valley are now at 8 p.m. Sunday nights, which includes an open discussion at the PV Public Library, 210 N. Willow, and at 7:30 p.m. Thursday nights it's closed Big Book at First Christian Church, 300 N. Ash. The same church also hosts a closed session at 10 a.m. Saturday mornings. Narcotics Anonymous

A Narcotics Anonymous group in Wynnewood called “A Simple Way” meets at 7 p.m. nightly Monday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at 103 N. Dean A. McGee. Call Freddie at 580-467-4309 for more.

T.O.P.S.

In Garvin County there are five collection boxes always available to dispose of old and unused prescription drugs — the Garvin County Courthouse, PV Police Department (400 W. Paul), the 911 Center (225 W. McClure), Chickasaw Nation senior center (109 N. Indian Meridian in PV) and Lindsay Police Department (101 E. Kiowa).

PV Samaritans

Regular hours for the PV Samaritans food pantry in the old NYA Building in Wacker Park are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays and the last Saturday of the month, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
