Knowing what snakes live in Oklahoma can help people properly identify them when they encounter them.

The Noble Research Institute in Ardmore will host a Learning About the Snakes of Oklahoma seminar from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Monday, May 20 at the Southern Tech Auditorium.

Noble Research Institute senior wildlife and fisheries consultant Mike Porter will provide attendees with the need-to-know information about snakes in Oklahoma.

“People often fear snakes because they don’t understand them. Only a few Oklahoma snake species pose risks to people,” Porter said.

Topics will include:

• The basics of snake biology.

• The largest snake species in Oklahoma.

• The smallest snake species in Oklahoma.

• The venomous snakes in Oklahoma.

• Common nonvenomous snakes in Oklahoma.

• How to avoid snake bites.

• Snake bite first aid.

There is no registration fee, but preregistration is required. For more information and to register, visit www.noble.org/events online. Registration will close on May 13.
