Mid-America Technology Center students recently participated in the Southwest District SkillsUSA Skill contests held at technology centers throughout the Southwest District.

Students from the Garvin County area and the categories they competed in included:

Automotive Service Technology - Tyler Carnell, Pauls Valley, Secondary, 3rd place Automotive Service; and Eric Wood, Lindsay, Post Secondary, 3rd place Automotive Service.

Building and Grounds Maintenance - Michael Stockman, Pauls Valley, Secondary, 1st place Low Speed Buffing; Raymond Hill, Pauls Valley, Secondary, 3rd place ZTR Mower; T.J. Biggs, Stratford, Secondary, 4th place Riding Mower; Jared Ledbetter, Pauls Valley, Post Secondary, 1st place Small Engine Parts Identification; and James Kuykendall, Lindsay, Post Secondary, 1st place Riding Mower.

Also competing were Phillip Day, Pauls Valley, Secondary, Hard Surface Maintenance; and Bryan Moore, Pauls Valley, Secondary, Hard Surface Maintenance.

Commercial and Residential Services - Christina Bray, Pauls Valley, Secondary, 5th place Carpet Maintenance; and Alex Pocket, Paoli, Post Secondary, 3rd place Low Speed Buffing.

Computer Service Technology - John Dixon, Wynnewood, Secondary, 2nd place Computer Maintenance; Gregory Dixon, Wynnewood, Secondary 3rd place Computer Maintenance; and Joseph Robison, Lindsay, Post Secondary, 2nd place Computer Maintenance.

Cosmetology - Brandi Ward, Pauls Valley, Secondary, 6th place Nails.

Machine Tool Technology - Bronson Kenworthy, Lindsay, Secondary, 2nd place Precision Machining; and Jason Coley, Stratford, Secondary, 5th place Precision Machining.

Welding - Robert Jarman, Lindsay, Secondary 5th place 1st Year Welding; and William Nelson, Wynnewood, Post Secondary Welding.

As a result of the work these students did at the district level, Mid-America had 24 students qualify to participate in the Skill Contests at the Oklahoma State SkillsUSA Skills Championships and Leadership Conference in Tulsa on May 2-4.

Qualifying for the state event were Zach Dyson, Jerry Wittman, Tyler Carnell, Michael Stockman, Joe Harsley, Jared Ledbetter, Gary McGehee, Clayton Meyer, Andrew Holland, Cody Simmons, Justin Black, George Mainus, Levi Cain, A.J. Nunez, Melinda Prigmore, Zach Darling, John Dixon, Joseph Robinson, Wade Boleski, Bronson Kenworthy, Michael Juel, Joe Baxter, Dustin Chapman and William Nelson.
