Guilty pleas on similar charges have drawn very different sentences for two Pauls Valley men accused of banding together to threaten and beat another man this past spring.

Handed a five-year prison sentence with that same amount of time suspended was Kevin Ray Brown, 24, while a deferred term went to Brady Alan Giambaresi, 25.

In addition to separate drug charges, the two were accused in March of first using a gun to threaten Jackie Frazier, 27, and then a wooden sledge hammer handle to strike him several times.

Both Brown and Giambaresi had felony counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon filed against them on March 14.

With a much more involved criminal record and a now revoked probation from Caddo County, Brown was handed the jail time on the assault charge and four drug-related counts filed against him throughout the year in Garvin County District Court.

One of those accusations was for selling methamphetamine in February to another individual in Pauls Valley.

Giambaresi also pleaded guilty to his assault charge and four formal accusations related to illegal drugs filed in July.

He was handed a five-year deferred term on the assault plea and a one-year suspended sentence for the other charges.

As part of his deferred sentence, Giambaresi was ordered to undergo random drug testing during a two-year supervised probation period.

Both Brown and Giambaresi were accused of pointing a handgun at Frazier’s head and the sledge hammer handle to strike him, also in the head area, during an incident at a residence in the 500 block of South Elizabeth.

Brown initially told officers arriving at the scene the confrontation began after Frazier had forced his way into the residence.

Frazier told a different story claiming the two subjects began the surprise attack when he went inside looking for Brown.

Frazier reportedly later refused medical treatment despite being advised to have his head injuries checked out in greater detail at an Oklahoma City medical facility.
