State authorities are not sure what caused a Byars man to drive his vehicle off a highway near Purcell resulting in his death.

Killed in the one-car accident early Friday morning was 66-year-old Lawrence Harvey Williams.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report shows Williams was alone while driving a 2014 Lexus.

The vehicle was traveling northbound on Interstate 35 when at a listed time of 2:43 a.m. June 28 it went off the roadway to the right for an unknown reason.

Troopers report the site was just south of the 91 mile marker near Purcell.

From there the car traveled about 400 feet before striking a trailer home located approximately 90 feet from the highway.

Williams, who is reported to have been wearing seatbelts at the time, was pinned in the vehicle for just over three hours.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by an official with the state medical examiner's office. He was taken by Wadley's Emergency Medical Service to the medical examiner's office in Oklahoma City.

McClain County deputies and Purcell police assisted at the wreck site.
