Linda (Blackwood) Harris has announced her candidacy for the Chickasaw Tribal Legislature as Chickasaw Nation voters prepare to elect new legislative members soon.

Harris is a member of the Chickasaw Nation and has been a resident of Garvin County, Pickens District all of her life.

An elementary school teacher for the past 25-years, she has been employed at the Elmore City-Pernell Public Schools for the past 24-years.

Harris said she has a passion for education, the elderly and health care and will be a voice for tribal members.

“I will work tirelessly to improve educational opportunities for all Chickasaw children, so ‘no child will be left behind,’” she said.

She also will work for new state of the art elder care programs and services as well as innovative health care programs to be implemented into the Chickasaw Health Service Delivery System.

Harris’ parents were the late Bill Sr. and Zettie Blackwood and her grandmother was the late Emily (Loomer) Gibson nee Blackwood, an original Chickasaw enrollee who was born in Mill Creek, Okla.

“I will represent the Chickasaw people to the best of my ability. Your expressed wishes, ideas and recommendations will be heard,” she said.
