Opry again under the stars

Pake McEntire will is just one of the guests set for the fourth annual Pauls Valley Opry in the Park event, free to the public, which is set for an 8 p.m. start Saturday, July 6 at the Wacker Park bandshell.

Hot tunes outside on a hot summer night again sets the stage in Pauls Valley for a night at the opry.

In this case it’s the annual Opry in the Park coming to PV’s bandshell in Wacker Park.

This is the fourth straight year for the free outdoor show, which has an 8 p.m. start time set for Saturday, July 6.

The show represents a nice change for the monthly Pauls Valley Opry, which came to PV in 2012 with Becky and Woodie Hill still leading the charge.

“It’s been a fun outdoor show where people bring lawn chairs, blankets, there’s music and kids running around,” Becky Hill says about the now annual July show under the stars.

“It’s just a nice evening of music.”

The show features the Memory Makers Band with emcee John Williams.

Special guests include Brad and Tammy Sue Magness, Paul Lopez, Cathy Lake, Dwayne Yoesting, April Davis and Pake McEntire.

A few of them are coming from a long way off just to perform in this local holiday show.

“People have begun to hear about us, and there's some who just like to come perform,” Hill said.

For example, the Magness couple oversees similar opry shows in Indiana and like to take to the stage themselves.

“They are scheduling their vacation so they can come and perform in our show,” she said about Brad and Tammy Sue Magness.

Cathy Lake is a regular performer in the PV Opry show who comes from Texas.

For the upcoming show another guest is Oklahoma performer Pake McEntire, who happens to be the brother of country music legend Rita McEntire.

“We like it because it's an opportunity to give back to the city of Pauls Valley,” Hill said about the annual outdoor show. “They support us, and we appreciate their help.

“The show is a fun place to be, and it brings people to Pauls Valley.”

Cool drinks are in order for the outing in the park as concessions will be available.
