The Pauls Valley Panthers overcame a four-point third quarter to avenge an earlier loss to Marlow with a 50-46 win over the Outlaws on senior night. Junior Quincy Jackson led the Panthers with a team-high 17 points as PV won for the sixth time this season.
Pauls Valley started five of its six seniors to start the game with seniors Jake Foster, John Michael Balcerak and Matthew Warren all scoring to give PV a 6-5 lead. Marlow then hit three straight 3-pointers to give the Outlaws a 14-6 lead.
Pauls Valley rallied in the final two minutes as they hit three straight 3-points one by Luke Hamilton and two by Luke Beddow including one at the buzzer that gave PV a 15-14 lead.
The game went back-and-forth over the first six minutes of the second quarter with six lead changes and neither team leading by more than three. After a #33 three-pointer gave Marlow a 25-23 lead late in the quarter, Pauls Valley came to life. Jackson scored the final seven points for PV as the Panthers took a 30-27 lead at the break. In all, Jackson scored 11 of the Panthers 15 points in the quarter.
Pauls Valley struggled to start the second half to score. PV went four minutes into the quarter before Jackson hit a short jumper. Grimmett followed with a short jumper for the Panthers as they took a 34-33 lead. Marlow scored the final three points of the quarter for a 36-34 lead.
Pauls Valley got back on track offensively with back-to-back baskets by Ben Dobbins and Grimmett. That game went back-and-forth until the two-minute mark with four lead changes and three ties.
Beddow's three-pointer gave PV the lead for good at the two-minute mark. Marlow cut the lead to three with under a minute to go. Both teams missed free throws in the final minute that could have changed the outcome. Hamilton finally hit a free throw with 19 seconds left giving PV a two-possession lead and sealing the Panther win.
Pauls Valley will play Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the Canadian Valley Conference Match-Play.
