At 4-0 overall and 1-0 in district play, the Maysville Warriors are happy with their start but not satisfied.

“It’s nice to be 4-0 and get our first win in district play,” Warrior head coach Brad O’Steen said.

“But we have to keep our kids hungry. We have to focus in on the little things and getting better there.”

The Warriors record hasn’t come against a pansy schedule.

They have played two very quality squads in Stratford and Wynnewood and two good teams in Elmore City and Wayne on their way to a perfect start.

The schedule continues its toughness Friday night when the Warriors host the Crescent Tigers in A-4 district action.

The Tigers are right behind the Warriors in district action making this a key game in the race for the playoffs.

Crescent is solid on offense behind a large and experienced offensive line.

Pecos Musil (5-10, 228) heads up the guys in the trenches and has been tagged as one of the best in Class A. Steven Bailey (6-3, 210) is a huge part of the offense at tight end. He not only provides solid blocking for the running game he is a favorite target for the Tigers passing game.

“They are very talented,” O’Steen said about the Tiger offense. “They will throw a bunch of stuff at you with their offense. They run the ball 65 percent of the time, but they like to throw the ball to their tight end.”

The Warriors boast the No. 1 defense in the district giving up only 20 points in four games. They will be tested Friday night against a very potent Tiger offense.

“Playing well defensively,” O’Steen said of his Warriors. “We have the No. 1 “D” in the district and we’ve played some quality teams.”

The offense has not fired on all cylinders yet. They have played well at times but still haven’t put four quarters together.

Crescent will throw a 4-3 look at the Warriors.

“Their kids are very physical on defense,” O’Steen said. “They base out of the 4-3 but will switch up their defenses.

“We’ll have to control the guys up front to be successful on defense. We’ll have to adjust to the different looks that Crescent will show us and not give up the big play.”

The Warriors are at home in this key battle with kick off slated for 7:30 p.m. at Warrior Field.
